Converting tenths to hundredths

Mathematics · Fractions · procedural

Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100 and use this to add fractions with denominators 10 and 100 (e.g. 3/10 + 4/100 = 34/100)

What mastery looks like

  • Rewrite 7/10 as 70/100
  • Calculate 3/10 + 4/100 = 34/100
  • Explain why 5/10 = 50/100 using a hundredths grid

Check your understanding

If Converting tenths to hundredths needs to add 3/10 and 17/100, can they rewrite 3/10 as hundredths first — and then add the two fractions together?
