Mathematics · Data & Statistics · procedural

Interpret categorical data by asking and answering questions about totals, how many in each category, and how many more or less one category has than another

What mastery looks like

  • Answer 'how many?' for each category in a data set
  • Calculate the total number of data points across all categories
  • Compare two categories using 'how many more/fewer' language

Check your understanding

If Sorting into categories (age 6+) looks at a chart showing how many children chose each flavour of ice cream, can they answer questions like "how many chose chocolate?" and "how many more chose vanilla than strawberry?"
